The China Academy of Information and Communications Technology has released a white paper on China's broadband development (2023). Combined with the current situation, this white paper sorts out the new trend of China's broadband development policy in 2023, summarizes the new achievements and changes of broadband development in the past year, analyzes the trend and direction of broadband evolution in the next three years, and puts forward suggestions and measures to promote the rapid development of China's broadband.
The white paper mentions that by the end of September 2023, China has built and opened 1.08 billion fiber to the home (FTTH) ports, and the fiber network is basically accessible to existing administrative villages across the country. The coverage of Gigabit optical networks continues to expand. The number of 10G PON ports on the existing network with gigabit network service capability has reached 21.848 million, accounting for more than 60% of the number of deployed PON ports, and becoming the mainstream access mode for fixed optical networks.
The number of fixed broadband users with gigabit and above speeds has accelerated, and the number of users has exceeded 140 million, accounting for 23% of fixed broadband users.
New services such as fiber to Room (FTTR) have moved from pilot deployment to large-scale development, with more than 8 million users.
From the point of view of the backbone network, as of the end of September 2023, the total length of China's optical cable lines reached 63.097 million kilometers, an increase of 7.4%. Among them, the trunk cable reached 1.124 million kilometers, an increase of 2.6%.
The replacement of trunk optical cables has accelerated, and the deployment scale of new ultra-low loss optical fibers has gradually expanded, and the deployment scale of G.654.E optical fibers has reached 30,000 leather kilometers. The backbone transmission network continues to expand. A 200-gigabyte transmission system is deployed, and a 400-gigabyte ultra-high-speed and ultra-large capacity transmission system is deployed in some backbone scenarios.
